6/8/2023 0 Comments A little hatred reviewOnce that was finished he shared about coming to a deal with his publisher to write all three volumes of his newest trilogy at once, and then release a book a year, so no waiting years between books! The impetus for the idea was so that by writing it all together, he could go backwards and forwards changing or updating as the story unfolded, and not have any awkward surprises while writing the third book, when it’s too late to change anything. A few years ago Abercrombie put out a YA fantasy series that I was overall disappointed with, excellent first book, second was okay, third was a big let down. But for whatever reason I never picked up the standalone volumes that occurred afterwards. It was unlike any fantasy I had read up to that point and I tore through it. In the mid 2000’s I discovered Joe Abercrombie’s gritty and brutal “First Law Trilogy”. The point being, Asimov did not have a plan - at all. In fact, all three novels in the original trilogy - Foundation, Foundation and Empire (1952) and Second Foundation (1953) - were originally published as serialized, interconnected short stories. Subsequently, when the “novel” version of Foundation was published in 1951, it was comprised of these short stories, adapted to be made into a cohesive book. Campbell pressured Asimov to expand the idea into a series of short stories, sometimes called “novelettes.” The figure of Prince Willis “made him think of soldiers and Empires” and caused him to pitch a short story about huge future history that would be about the “the collapse of the Galactic Empire.” This was 1941, Asimov was only 21 years old, and the editor he pitched was John Campbell, who ran the famous science fiction magazine Astounding. According to Alec Nevala-Lee’s history book, Astounding, Isaac Asimov was inspired to write Foundation by an illustration from the opera Iolanthe contained in a book of Gilbert and Sullivan lyrics he was reading while riding a train. 6/7/2023 0 Comments Brian weiss new bookYou have a legal obligation to take reasonable care of the goods while they are in your possession. Later in the story, it is revealed that he has appeared in Delain multiple times, under multiple guises, the oldest of which that is mentioned in the book took place over five hundred years in the past. Though he has lived in Delain for roughly seventy years, he has only appeared to age ten. In his incarnation in Eyes of the Dragon, he has served as an advisor to four successive monarchs: Roland's grandparents and parents, Roland himself, and Thomas. Flagg is a powerful magician and has been around for centuries. He also is the father of both Thomas and Peter. However, early in the story he does favor his wife's advice more than Flagg's. He trusts Flagg, his advisor, but little does he realize that Flagg intends ill will toward Roland. While renowned for slaying a dragon in his younger, more virile days, he has now become somewhat infirm and addled. WatsonIce roads are also important for industry in the Arctic, especially on Alaska’s North Slope, where resource companies use them so operators can avoid driving on tundra when traveling between base camps and exploration and development sites. Now, however, a changing climate and more erratic winter storms are making ice roads like this one less reliable and harder to keep safe and passable all winter long. But Leary said the tribe saw a need to begin maintaining it about a decade ago to facilitate transportation of wood products during the winter, and to keep the route safe and clear for the thousands of residents who live along the river. There has been an ice road of some sort on the Kuskokwim River since vehicles first arrived in the region. There’s a steady stream of vehicles all day long going up and down on the ice road.” “Oh my gosh, you gotta see it with your own eyes,” said Leary, the director of operations for the road and an employee of the Native Village of Napaimute, the entity that leads the effort to establish and maintain it. This is the Kuskokwim ice road, whose main stem can extend over 300 miles, connecting the bulk of the region’s population. Every year, once the river freezes and the snow is cleared from the ice, dozens of trucks, snowmobiles and other vehicles from more than 17 different villages whiz back and forth atop it. A few weeks ago, Mark Leary and his crew began to plow the snow off the frozen Kuskokwim River in southwest Alaska. 6/6/2023 0 Comments Midnight Ash by Ana AshleyWorking through past wounds with Skyler won’t be easy, though, especially with family obligations-and the occasional dairy cow-interfering. The last place Judson wants to be is back home in Burlington, living with family. Judson’s been gone for ten years, but he’s the man Skyler never forgot. But when he does, it takes only a heartbeat for recognition to set in and for sparks to fly. The Second Ghost Book had a hardcover edition in 1952 from James Barrie, and was reprinted in paperback by Pan (under the imprint Great Pan) in 1956. The first, originally titled The Ghost Book, was published in hardcover from Hutchinson in 1926, and didn’t appear in paperback until 1945. They were published between 19, and there are a lot of them. Take for example the highly regarded Pan Ghost Books. That’s not remotely true of British paperbacks. I have by no means a complete collection (or anything close to a complete collection), but after nearly four decades of collecting I’ve seen almost all the really desirable stuff, and I’m intimately familiar with the market. I’ve done a fair job of collecting American horror and dark fantasy paperback anthologies over the years. 6/6/2023 0 Comments Mark millar superman red sonreleased a Red Son animated adaptation of the series in 2020.
